“Middle School”, as exciting and adventurous it sounds to your children, it is as big as a step towards their maturity and growth.  Children feel mixed emotions of both enthusiasm and distress of landing into the middle school. There have been multiple research studies around this behavioral aspect which highlights the scope of logistical (difficulty in finding the classroom, playground, cafeteria, etc.), social (older children teasing or bullying, etc.) and academic (pressure of getting better grades, difficult subjects, homework, etc.) changes in the children life. This tension does not only cripple amongst the children, parents too are often seen juggling with the unexpected changes coming into their children’s behavior and subsequently affecting their lives. But as they say, everything can work out well if there is some planning done in advance and a room for open discussion is created by the parents. Kiddie Castle Children’s Center emphasizes on the assistance of the parents and teachers during this transition of the children and spells out various practices that can be performed by the parents to slacken the grip with their children.

First thing first:  understanding what is creating fear in the mind of a child and get involved

Parents can assist in preparing their children to navigate the transition happening in their life because of middle school. Talking with them about their new school, new friends and teachers help the child to open those doors which enclose their fears and anxieties. This can be a big step towards creating an atmosphere where they can come up with any problem and get prepared to deal with the upcoming situations.

Visiting the school campus, attending parent-teacher meetings and conferences and talking to fellow guardians: A tool for helping the child to overcome his academics and logistics fear

Parents can take a tour of the school campus with their children to make them familiar with the logistics. Introducing the child to other fellow guardians and teachers can help them in opening and settling with the new environment quicker. Further, attending the scheduled meetings with the teachers can help the parents to understand the expectations of the school as well so that their children are equipped with the idea of upcoming challenges. You can enroll in the international school for a different experience.

Encouragement and assistance to overcome social fear

To help the child come out of his self-woven world of social wear, the parents must take an initiative to talk with them about the traits of a good friend and help him/her to open to explore their group. There are different ways to do this either by making them join a weekend play club or a group for doing extracurricular activities, etc. To find more useful information visit Kiddie Castle Children’s Center.
