What Does NET Stand For? Who Conducts The Test?

NET stands for National Eligibility Test. It is conducted twice every year in all the states of India to grant fellowship and position of Assistant Professor to students in various Universities and colleges. Lakhs of students apply for the test but only few of them are able to secure a good score. This test is conducted every year by National Test Agency (NTA) twice over a period of one year. 

All About UGC NET Exam Pattern

This exam consists of two papers, Papers I & Paper II which you have to attempt at one sitting; over a period of three years. The first paper consists of objective questions on general knowledge and tests your research aptitude skills while the second paper is more subject specific. It tests your knowledge on your specific subject. The first paper consists of 50 questions and the second half consists of 100 questions. All the questions have multiple choice answers with one correct, among four. There is no negative marking scheme and each answer consists of two marks. That means, the exam weighs 300 marks in all which you have to attempt in 3 hours.

Modes and Modalities

Candidates applied for the test are assigned respective examination centers where they have to appear before the allotted time. The exam rules and regulations are very strict which means if you are late by a minute, you may be barred from taking the exam. 

The exam is conducted in online mode. Each candidates are given a separate desktop with a system software installed that enables you to take the exam. You must always check the connectivity and whether the device is working properly or not, before the exam begins.

 

How to Prepare For the Exam
The UGC NET exam is based on 300 MCQs which you have to attempt within a short span of 3 hours. Therefore, prepare yourself to be steady with the time management and the pattern of incoming questions. The only mantra to crack the exam is PRACTICE. You have to practice solving the questions as much as you can to speed up your time management. It is also important to recognize your strength and weakness.
