Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) releases its official notification for Civil Services Examination in the month of February of each year. This year, notification was out on 12th February 2020. After the notification, the application process had started and now the Prelims Examination will take place on 4th October 2020. The entire UPSC 2020 process will complete by 2021 after the final UPSC Marksheet will be released by the commission.
What is the UPSC Marksheet?
UPSC marksheet is the final score card of the aspirants that the commission releases after all the three stages of the examination are over. The stages of the UPSC CSE examination are:
- Preliminary Examination
- Mains Examination
- Personality Test
Steps to UPSC Marksheet
An aspirant should know the step-by-step UPSC application process to have a clear understanding of the final scorecard. The process is mentioned below:
- Release of the UPSC notification – This takes place, as mentioned earlier, in the month of February of each year. In 2019, UPSC Notification was released on 19th February 2019 while this year, it has been released on 12th February 2020.
- Start of application process – After the release of the notification, the commission starts the application process where each and every candidate is required to fill the application form. This application form is released along with the notification.
- Submission of the application form – Commission fixes the last date of online application form submission on/before which an aspirant has to submit his/her application form.
- Release of Admit Card for preliminary examination – Commission releases Prelims admit card 3 weeks prior to the examination. The admit card has to be downloaded online by the aspirant and to be carried by each candidate to the examination centre on the day of the prelims exam.
- Prelims Examination – This is the first stage of the examination. After qualifying from this stage, the candidate moves to the next stage. This exam has two papers — General Studies and CSAT. While CSAT is qualifying in nature, it is the score in the prelims that is considered to decide the cut-off and candidates’ success.
- Result of Prelims – After approximately 35-45 days, UPSC released the prelims result. In 2019, the prelims result was declared on 15th July 2019. Prelims result of 2020 will be out in November 2020 after the examination takes place on October 4.
- Release of Mains Application form called the Detailed Application Form – For CSE 2019, Mains application form was released on 1st August 2019. 2020 application form for Mains will be out in December 2019 as the examination stands to take place from 8th January 2021 onwards.
- Submission of Mains Application Form – The commission provides the last date on/before which a candidate has to submit the application. 2019 candidates had to submit the Mains application form on/before 16th August 2019.
- Mains Exam – This is the second stage of the civil services examination. It has 9 papers which are subjective in nature. After clearing this stage, candidates lead to the final stage of the examination. Mains 2020 will take place from 8th January 2021 onwards.
- Release of Mains Result – This is released by the commission within three months of the examination. Mains 2019 result was declared on 15th January 2020.
- Release of Interview Schedule & Personality Test Stage – After the mains result, the commission releases the interview schedule of the successful candidates. The interview process for 2019 has ended on 31st July 2020.
- Final Marksheet – IAS Marksheet is released after the entire process is done and the final result is declared. The commission releases the marksheet on its official website from where the candidates can download it.

Aspirants should know the following things about the marksheet of the civil services examination. Such details will help candidates to be fully aware of the examination process:
- Prelims marksheet does not get released with the prelims result.
- Marksheet of Prelims examination or scorecard of the prelims examination is released only after the completion of the final process.
